My Belief Statement
As a school librarian and teacher, I believe that the task of preparing students for the future is a great responsibility, and my purpose is to enable students to gain knowledge on their own.
I am a facilitator that guides them through a process to discover new things and make connections. Authentic lessons and assessments allow students to be actively engaged in their learning to solve real problems and issues and contribute to the greater community and that learning is then stored and transferable in their everyday lives.
Students deserve to be challenged and use the technology available to increase their 21st century skills. Students need to know what they are expected to learn, how they are expected to learn, and why they are expected to learn.
It is my job to help students think critically and creatively, work collaboratively with flexibility and initiative, and develop information and media literacy skills. Once students have learned how to ask essential questions, how to find the answers effectively and efficiently, and how to evaluate those answers accordingly, they will have the tools to be lifelong learners and no one can stop them from learning anything they want to know.
